What We Offer
Our products are tailored to fit specific asphalt or specific asphalt formulations. Accordingly, we offer a selection of products, contributing different functionalities.
We offer more effective and lower cost alternatives to known products such as Sunoco Hydrolene™ or ExxonMobil Polybilt 101™. In paving applications, our products offer reduced lay-down temperatures, lower emissions and a more durable pavement. In PMA formulations, our new efficient cross-linkers reduce costs and reduce SBS content. Our products offer roofing manufacturers lower emissions, reduced cycle times, increased line speed and lower energy costs. Our products allow use of PG grade asphalt for BURA and potentially for roofing shingles versus expensive asphalt flux in oxidation.
Savings are realized in each of the following categories by (1) reduced material and compound cost, (2) reduced energy in processing the asphalt compound, (3) reduced emissions by the ability to process or apply at lower temperatures, (4) increased production rates, especially in oxidation processes, or (5) a combination of these values.
Added benefits include stronger and more durable pavements or roofing products based on using our materials in your asphalt mix, or the ability to incorporate our products without the capital investments of oxidation processes or high-shear mixing.
Soon to be released from development our Engineered Rubber Modifier (ERM) products offer a dry-mix pathway to improved performance of paving and roofing mixtures, incorporating specially processed ground tire rubber (GTR) and functioning as a visco-elastic modifier, processing aid, antioxidant, and crack retarding agent. These materials will substantially improve polymer affinity in existing PMA formulations and yield a pathway to improving durability characteristics of base asphalt for uses in non-modified asphalt products. These dry powder products will efficiently blend into asphalt with simple agitation and moderate applied heat.
1. Asphalt Performance Modifiers
based on renewable resources or on natural gas chemistries, provide options to reduce asphalt viscosity or compound viscosities in paving and roofing formulations, expanding supply options, saving energy by reduced application temperatures, reducing emissions and achieving durable pavement or lasting roofing products.
- Astech PER (a lower cost alternate to Hydrolene ™)
- Astech ML-BUR
- Astech S-15
- Astech CS-15
These materials offer the ability to change the Penetration and Softening Point relationship of nearly any asphalt or asphalt compound, and provide the opportunity to reduce the amount of conventional polymer that may be required, thereby reducing your costs. In other applications, these modifiers allow the user to develop similar properties to that of oxidized asphalt without the costs and equipment associated with oxidation.
2. Pavement Performance Modifiers
based on renewable resources or developed within our proprietary ERM family of compounds, provide the ability to extend both the high and low PG temperature ranges of a given asphalt without need of high shear processing.
These additives enhance the stiffness modulus to improve the load bearing properties of the PG binder through improved adhesive strength. Once dispersed into the asphalt, they will not separate, even if the binder is cooled and reheated.
- Astech ML-PAV (a lower cost alternate to Polybilt 101™)
3. Oxidation Enhancing Chemistries
based on renewable resources, allow asphalt oxidation at reduced processing temperatures and shorter cycle times, thereby reducing costs, increasing production rate and increasing capacity.
They allow the user to expand the range of acceptable asphalt to generate his oxidized asphalt products, i.e. using harder (lower penetration) and less expensive asphalt to oxidize and achieve targeted results, reducing the need for expensive asphalt flux for BURA and potentially for roofing shingles. These materials are not catalysts, do not contain polyphosphoric acid and are miscible in all asphalts.

- Astech CS-15
- Astech CLL
- Astech CLB
4. Sulfur & Non-Sulfur Cross-linkers
are new and efficient cross-linkers that will improve effectiveness at lower costs over sulfur or conventional cross-linkers available from others. These materials offer the option for reducing polymer usage at lower cost than with alternative cross-linkers.
- Astech CLL (sulfur based)
- Astech CLB (non-sulfur based)
5. RAP Performance Modifiers or Rejuvenators
based on renewable resources, with flash point typically over 425° F, allow a more effective use of Recycled Asphalt Pavement (RAP) or recovered scrap shingles in new highway paving formulations. These materials allow the user to maximize the amount of RAP incorporated into the mix design.
- Astech RAP
6. Unique Carrier Solvents
based on renewable resources, with a flash point typically over 425° F, allow an effective means to convey liquid dispersible solids into an asphalt formulation.
- Astech SOL
7. Engineered Rubber Modifiers
offer various functionalities in a dry-liquid add-mixture for dry incorporation in an asphalt or aggregate system. Once incorporated into an asphalt mix, these ERMs create a more stable bond with the asphalt, more effectively utilizing ground tire rubber (GTR) into a paving or roofing mix. Certain of our ERMs improve the affinity of the asphalt system for the polymers you choose to use, potentially reducing the total quantity of polymer required
